Life time achievement award to legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer Firoza Begum

BAAWA will honour legendary Nazrul sangeet singer Mrs. Firoza Begum with Lifetime Achievement Award on 23 June 2012 in Perth, Australia.

Bangladesh Australia Association of Western Australia Inc. (BAAWA) is a not for profit organisation. It serves Bangladeshi Australian living in WA, nurtures the cultural identity of its members and integrates them with the wider Australian community in the spirit of multiculturalism.

This year BAAWA executive committee has decided to honour a legendary singer from Bangladesh Mrs. Firoza Begum with a lifetime achievement award on 23 June 2012. Firoza Begum, born in 1930s, not only popularise Nazrul Sangeet in the subcontinent but also exposed the depth, versatility and sophistication of this genre of music in the last few decades.

The award ceremony will held at Curtin Theatre of the John Curtin College of Arts in Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia on Saturday 23 June 2012 evening at 6.30pm. The program will include presentation of the bibliography of Mrs. Firoza Begum, discussion on her singing experience and display some of her songs. At the same time we would like to present contemporary Bangladeshi music to our audience in the second half of the program by her two sons Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed.
