Dua and milad mahfil for Ex Finance Minister Saifur Rahman

Dear respected community members,

We are deeply saddened with the news that Saifur Rahman, Bangladesh’s longest-serving finance minister and a veteran politician, was killed in a car crash on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ashuganj on Saturday afternoon – inna lillahe wa inna ilahe rajeun. Mr Rahman was returning to the capital from his ancestral home in Moulvibazar when his sport-utility vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch at Khairala at 2:30pm.

The tragic death brings to an end a life that was spent largely in public service from the late 1970s onward. In the years after he joined the government of Late President Ziaur Rahman as commerce and then finance minister, Rahman played a pivotal role in the way Bangladesh’s economy was to shape itself. He remains and this is to his credit the man who has presented the highest number of national budgets, to the country.

The death of M. Saifur Rahman is an irreparable loss for the country and the nation mourns his death alongside with his bereaved family members.

A special tribute and milad mahfil has been arranged to pay respect to the veteran leader and pray for the peace of his departed soul at Huntingdale Mosque tomorrow Tuesday 8th September, 2009, at 4:30pm after Asr prayer. Details as under:
