Essay-Writing & Drawing competition for young people of Bangladeshi community

Bangabandhu Society of Australia (BSA) invites essays from the young members of our community in connection with the Celebration of Independence Day and Bangabandhus Birthday. The purpose for these competitions is to generate interest in our culture and involve young people to understand our great leader and his contribution in creating a new independent nation-state named Bangladesh.

Essay-writing competition

Topic: Bangladesh has achieved independence through the prudent leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Discuss.

(Essays to be written in English)

You may consider the following points in your essay:

· Various movements that shaped Bangabandhus leadership IN PRE-INDEENDANCE BANGLADESH: (a) The 1952 Bangla language movement; (b) the 6 and 11 points movement of 1966; (c) The mass-upsurge of 1969 and landslide victory of Awami League in the general election of 1970.

· The 1971 liberation war

· The economic, cultural and regional oppression by the West Pakistani Military regimes of East Bengal

· Laying the foundation for the stately ideals of Nationalism, socialism, secularism, democracy and a constitution for the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

Participants: Junior Group: From High School Year 7 to Year 9

Senior Group: From Year 10 to Year 12

Word-limit: From 1500 to 2000 words (please note number of words is not important. We would value the quality of information you provide in your essay. Also, we would assess the structure of your essay.)

Deadline: 13/03/2009

Topic : Drawing competition: your self-selected subject which may be a representative item from Bangladesh.

Venue : Glenfield Community Hall, Railway Pde(Close to Railway Station).

Time : 5.00 pm

Participants: 6 to 8 year age group (Participants are requested to bring their own coloring Boxes).
