Participating in Australia Day Parade
Dear Respected Community Groups and Individuals,
It is our pleasure to announce that Western Region Bengali School (WRBS) has intended to participate in Australia Day Parade on Saturday 26 January 2013, hosted by State Government of Victoria. Please note that this would be the third consecutive year for WRBS to participate in this prestigious event. Each of our participation over the past, has drawn widespread appreciation and acknowledgement from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Victorian Multicultural commission and other community groups. We strongly believe that by participating in an Australian event like this, opens up opportunity to represent ethnic Bangladeshi community living in Victoria and raise our profile as an effective and contributing community group to the other ethnic communities as well as to the mainstream Australian community. This also provides opportunity to our children to understand and appreciate the significance of multiculturalism in the pluralistic Australian society which is one of the major highlights of the event.
Based on experience from our previous participation and community feedback, WRBS council has decided to participate this year in a more structured way portraying traditional Bangladeshi cultural heritage and festivities to the Victorian ethnic and mainstream communities. While we are seeking your input and suggestion on the format, we would also take the opportunity to extend our invite to all Bangladeshi socio-cultural groups and individuals living in Victoria to participate in our parade.
Among the few ideas, you are welcome to wear costume and accessories and bring along with you items such as musical instruments (Ektara, Dhol, Flute etc.) that truly represent Bangladeshi tradition and culture.
