Observance of the National Mourning Day 2012 at Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra

Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra organised a program to observe the National Mourning Day 2012 to mark the 37th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation and the architect of the independent and sovereign Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August 2012 at the conference room of the High Commission. The High Commission observed the program into morning and evening sessions with due solemnity.

In the morning at 10:00 am the program began with due respect and honour to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. With the presence of all Mission officials H.E. the High Commissioner Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury half masted our National Flag to pay tribute to the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who embraced martyrdom along with his 18 family members on this very day in 1975 .

Later in the evening iftar followed by prayer and doa for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were organised. Many members of the expatriate Bangladesh community living in Canberra participated in the prayer and doa to pay homage to the Father of the Nation as well as to pray for the peace and salvation of the souls who were brutally murdered on the day in 1975. Also the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the war of liberation in 1971 and the statesmanship of Bangabandhu for his dedication for the development and well being of the country and its people was highlighted and praised during the doa. At the beginning of doa messages from the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Bangladesh given on this occasion were read out.

After doa a documentary on the life and achievements of Bangabandhu titled “Shadhinata Amar Shadhinata” was screened.
