Bangladesh Australia Association Canberra INC | Badminton Tournament 2010 (Men’s and women’s double)

Bangladesh Australia Association Canberra INC (BAAC) was pleased to organise indoor Badminton tournament on 9th of May, 2010 (Saturday) at the Belconnen Community centre after the huge success of organising ‘Independence Day’ outdoor sports programme on 28th April 2010. This year, there was tremendous enthusiasm among the participants and spectators. This year we had 8 teams for men’s doubles and 2 teams for women’. Unfortunately not many women teams were there, but the influence of this year’s tournament’s success will hopefully encourage and increase the number next year. Unfortunately, we could not include our youngsters (less than 18 years of age) due to public liability issues as adults played at their own risk.

The game plan and actual playing events are displayed in the attached pdf file and event photos at https://priyoaustralia.com.au/photos/main.php?g2_itemId=8821

We conclude that this yea’s Badminton tournament was a great success. For the successful tournament, our Association would like to thank all the participants who came as a player and also the spectators who came to give moral and logistic support. In particular BAAC would like to thank Khoka bhai, Ratul bhai, Forhad bhai and Raju bhai for organising Belconnen Community Centre as our play ground. Special thanks to Khoka bhai for providing us with shuttle corks. Many thanks to the Match controller/Referees (Khoka bhai, Noyon Bhai, Shojol bhai, Raju bhai and others).

Prizes and crests were distributed to the Champion and Runner’s-Up teams, as well as the best players (male and female) by the Association’s President Dr Moyazur Rahman Maroof, in conjunction with Vice-President Shafique Ahmed Rana, Sport’s Secretary Tawhidul Islam Tapa and Cultural Secretary Syful Islam Sohel.

Finally Association would like to convey plentiful thanks to the greater Bangladeshi community living in Canberra for their continued support in our endeavours to organise successful programmes. We hope next years event will be even a bigger one and will enjoy our full support/participation.

– Tawhidul Islam Tapa, Sport’s Secretary, BAAC 2009-10.
