Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra: Press Release

The Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Brig. General Ashraf A. Yussuf, afwc, psc will be visiting Australia from 15-21 February 2008 to encourage the Australian business houses and individual investors to invest in Bangladesh- destination with one of the most competitive and liberal foreign investment policies in South Asia. Mr. H. M. Farhad, Director General, Chief Adviser’s Office and the Acting High Commissioner Mr. Md. Restadul Islam are accompanying the Executive Chairman.

The delegation will meet senior officials of the companies such as Calytrix- an IT company, Polymorph Distribution (Australia) Pty Ltd.- a shoe manufacturing and importer and Quill (WA) Pty Ltd in Perth, Western Australia on 16-17 February 2008 where Mr. Graham Droppert, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh will also be present. The meeting will focus on the investment opportunities in the IT sector in Bangladesh. Later the delegation will have a roundtable discussion meeting at the University of Western Australia on the prospects of the investment scenario in Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in Bangladesh.
In Melbourne the delegation will meet the officials of TSCO Pty Ltd –a Textile Company and PNS Graphics as well as they will have a breakfast meeting on the issues related to investment climate in Bangladesh on 18 February 2008. Acting High Commissioner Mr Md. Restadul Islam will launch a Bangladesh Study Group at the Monash University and Executive Chairman Brig General Ashraf will speak at an Investment Workshop at the University organised by the Department of Management and International Business on the same day.

The Executive Chairman will deliver a paper on the investment opportunities in Bangladesh at a Workshop arranged by the University of South Australia, Adelaide on 19 February 2008 where the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University will be the guest of honour. On this day the delegation will have a meeting with the high officials of SANTOS-an oil exploration company of Australia on the issues of possible expansion of their investment for offshore drilling in Bangladesh.

The delegation will meet potential investors from the non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) in Sydney on 20 February 2008. Mr. Alan Grant, Chairman, PG Minerals will meet the Executive Chairman on 21 February 2008 in Sydney to discuss his intention to invest in Bangladesh mineral sector.
