BASSA AGM -2011 REPORT

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2011 Annual General Meeting of BASSA. With your co-operation and active participation, BASSA organised a series of events during this term. The highlights of the main activities undertaken by BASSA during 2010-11 are:

1. BASSA s new executive committee formed on last 30th may 2010 at Richmond primary school campus in Adelaide.

General Secretary: – Mr. Arshad hossain Bhuiyan.
Treasurer: – DR. A K M Rafiqul Islam.
Cultural secretary: Mrs. Ireen chaudhury.
Executive committee members:-
Mrs. Sufia Khanum.
Mr. Faruqe Ahamed.
Mr. Babul Hasan.

2. BASSA has been linked with www.priyoaustralia.com.au , Australia’s largest Bangladeshi community daily news on 14 July 2010.

3. Two EC members (Mr Arshad Hossain Bhuiyan and Mrs Sufia Khanam) represented BASSA at the farewell party for the Attorney General of South Australian Government on 4 August 2010.

4. BASSA arranged an Iftar party on 22 August at Richmond Primary School followed by dinner.
5. Four BASSA members attended the south Australian Government Eid reception party at the Parliament house on 24 September 2010.
6. Some BASSA members and Bangla School students attended the Ethnic Schools Children day parade followed by functions at the Festival Centre on 23 October 2010. Bangla School students performed two dances which received high appreciation from the organisers.

7. BASSA successfully liaised with Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Department to include National dates of Bangladesh in their Annual calendar.

8. BASSA organised an Eid-Reunion party and functions at the Goodwood Community Centre on 28 November 2010.

9. BASSA’s end of the party was held at the Thorndon Park reserve, Paradise on 26 December 2010.

10. BASSA members participated in the Annual Australia Day Parade on 26 January 2011. The parade started at 6PM from the corner of Pultney and Grenfell Street in the city and finished at Elder Park.

11. Mr Munirul Islam was selected as a BASSA EC member on 4 March 2011to fill the vacant position of Mrs Sufia Khanam. Mrs Roksana Bari proposed the name and Mr Arshad Hossain Bhuiyan seconded and all other EC members supported the move.

12. Some BASSA members attended the ABT BBQ party at the Largs Bay beach on 17 April 2011.

13. BASSA celebrated Bangla New Year 1418 with a large scale cultural function followed by dinner at the Burnside Community Centre, Tusmore on 30 April 2011. Dance performances by Bangla school students received high appreciation from the attendees. The invited guest from the Ethnic Schools Commission offered to publish a story in their next Newsletter to be published in June.

14. The Executive Committee selected Mrs Mita Palit on 15 May 2011to give singing lessons to interested Bangla School students from June 2011.

15. From June 2010 to May 2011 total 5 EC meetings were held.

May I take the opportunity to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all BASSA members and their families for their support and help and hope the members will continue to do so for the overall benefit of the community? Once again I wish BASSA all the best in the future. May common sense, good will and unity reign especially when BASSA affair are concerned.
