Auckland Bangladeshi Community Mourn for Bangabandhu on National Mourning Day, 2009.
The Bengali community in a big gathering in Auckland, New Zealand appealed governments of Bangladesh to complete the final process of the Bangabandhu Murder Case and award the self-confessed killers with punishment as previously given by the High Court. The call came from a discussion meeting on National Mourning Day held on 15th August 2009 at the Mount Roskill War Memorial hall, Auckland. The community paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 34th anniversary of death with various programmes. The portraits of life of Bangabandhu were on display at the memorial hall, which befitted the mode of the evening. The programme began with the hoisting of Bangladesh national flag at half-mast. A one-minute silence was observed to commemorate the saddest day in the history of Bangladesh. These were followed by a discussion meeting on the significance of National Mourning Day. The speakers spoke about the life of Bnagabandhu and paid their tribute to Bangabandhu. The speakers hoped that the trial process would soon be completed and the self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu and the most of his family members would be awarded with exemplary punishment. The meeting was followed by a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the members of his family who were also brutally killed by miscreants on 15 August in 1975. Presided over by Mr Kazi Ahshan Hayat Shetu and conducted by Mr Arif Siraj, the discussion meeting was also addressed by Mr.Abdullah Eusuf Murad , Mr M A Huq Shaheen, Mr Selim Ahmed Hazari, Mr Ranju Ahmed, Mr Kaiumuzzaman Mollah, Mrs Rupashri Chowdhury, Mr ATM Hasnat Jahan Mukul, Mr Tarun Kanti Chowdhury, Mr Shafiqur Rahman, Dr Ershad Ali and many others.
