Press Release – Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra

Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra celebrated the 96th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day On 17 March 2016, Thursday in an eventful and colourful manner. The program started with the placement of wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by H.E. the High Commissioner Kazi Imtiaz Hossain along with the officials of the Mission followed by the members of the community. Recitation from the Holy Quran and a special munajat was offered seeking holy blessings for the peace of souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members and for the peace and prosperity of the country. Messages of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out.

A discussion session on the life of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day was held at the conference room of the High Commission. Members of the Expatriate Bangladesh community living in Canberra participated in the discussion where they paid tribute and homage to Bangabandhu for his immense contribution and sacrifice for giving birth to independent Bangladesh.

In his remarks, H.E the High Commissioner, Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, paid deep homage and tribute to the Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who sacrificed his whole life for the country. Mentioning about Bangabandhu’s heartfelt attachments with the children, H.E highlighted various initiatives taken by Bangabandhu for the welfare of the children in Bangladesh including enactment of Children’s Act in 1974. He expects that the light of the ideology of Bangabandhu will be transferred from generation to generation. After the discussion session, children participated in a quiz competition and H.E Kazi Imtiaz Hossain distributed prizes among the winners of the competition. Then audiences enjoyed a cultural program performed by the children followed by light refreshment. The program was concluded by giving thanks to all participants.
