Observance of 93rd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day – 2013
Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra organised a program with due solemnity to celebrate the 93rd Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation and the architect of the independent and sovereign Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day 2013 at the conference room of the High Commission.

The program began with due respect and honour to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A number of children took part in art/painting, recitation and speech competition to mark the National Children Day. After the competition H.E. the High Commissioner Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury placed floral wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation with the presence of all Mission officials and expatriate Bangladeshi community to pay tribute to the memory of this great leader. Following that, messages from the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Bangladesh given on this occasion were read out. A discussion meeting held on the significance of the day where many expatriate Bangladeshis living in Canberra participated and highlighted the life of Bangabandhu and his contribution to our war of liberation in 1971 through which Bangladesh became independent. Speakers also praised his statesmanship and dedication for the development and wellbeing of Bangladesh and its people. A slide show focusing on the life and achievements of Bangabandhu was screened during the program. In his concluding speech H.E. the High Commissioner Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury highlighted the extraordinary leadership capability of Bangabandhu, pointed out that we should follow the qualities of this charismatic leader in every sphere of our lives and requested to build our next generation with Bangbandhu’s spirit of patriotism so that they can lead Bangladesh towards further progress and prosperity. Later children performed an attractive cultural program with songs and dances. Mrs Jasmin Masud, wife of H.E. the High Commissioner distributed prizes among the winners of the art/painting, recitation and speech competition.

The program concluded with the cutting of cake surrounded by the joy and happiness of children.
