Would Your Group Like To Have Free Strength Balance Exercise Classes?
Arthritis ACT has won a government grant to introduce its Strength & Balance exercise program to a range of multicultural groups in Canberra. The program is a set of gentle exercises designed to improve balance, muscle strength and flexibility in older people whose fear of falling is stopping them from being as active as they would like.
If you have a group of over 60 year olds that is interested in participating in this Strength & Balance program, this is a limited opportunity to do so at no cost. Arthritis ACT will provide the exercise leader in a location that is convenient for your group for 4-8 weeks (to be negotiated). As well as exercises, there will be information given on other techniques for falls prevention, services available in the ACT and what to do in the event of a fall. We will also work with you to organise a translator, if needed.
At the end of the program, if anyone in your group wishes to be trained in leading these exercises, we will be offering this training at no charge so your group can continue exercising together with support from Arthritis ACT.
If your cultural group would like to take up this opportunity, please call Helena Walker at Arthritis ACT on (02) 6288 4244 or email: educator@arthritisact.org.au as soon as possible.
