Dhrupad: Promoter of Sub-Continental Music in Australia

Dhrupad: Promoter of Sub-Continental Music in Australia

Dhrupad’s ‘Priyo Shur Priyo Gaan’ staged on the evening of Saturday, 16 July 2011 reminded Canberrans about the musical heritage of sub-continents. On the show, Dhrupad, a newly formed musical group consisting of talents originating from both Australia, Bangladesh and India, performed famous songs of Bangalis from India and Bangladesh. Like other song lovers gathered in the show I, from my inner heart, enjoyed every songs they sung.

Selection of songs, tune of music, and the decoration of hall were perfect to keep Canberrans warm and silent at least for 2 hours in Canberra’s chilly winter. The way Dhrupad performed on the stage proves nothing but the truth that it has the ability to be the promoter of sub-continental music in Australia, as it expressed in its leaflet. I wish Dhrupad every success in its long journey ahead.
