Message from Outgoing President, BAAC EC 2013/14

Dear Community Members,

Bangladesh Australia Association Canberra Inc. (BAAC) 2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Sunday, 13 July, 2014 at the meeting room of the Belconnen Library at 12 noon. On behalf of the EC members, I would like to request your kind presence at the AGM discussion and to elect a new executive committee for 2014-15 sessions.

This is probably my last communiqué to you as your outgoing President. Throughout the year, the Association has organized various programs to celebrate our national, religious, cultural & sporting events. We participated in the Canberra Annual Multicultural Festivals to represent Bangladesh and its culture to other multicultural community members /forums. This year, with your support, we have managed to organise few more additional events outside the standard events. At the last event through Bangladesh Night Fundraising dinner, BAAC has made a significant donation to our nominated charity organization “Fred Hollows Foundation” and Lets Work for Bangladesh. We were overwhelmed by the response received from the Canberra community and very pleased to take part in this worthy cause.

I am gratefully to the community remembers for their spontaneous support and help extended to BAAC EC over the last 12 months to successfully organize various events. Our children and their parents deserve special mention for their enthusiasm, commitment and active participation in various cultural and sports events. I also sincerely acknowledge the support and help received from the ACT Government’s Multicultural Affairs Department, Bangla Radio, Bangla School, CIC, Bangladesh High Commission, local & invited performers, sponsors and all other volunteers & well-wishers.

Finally, I must acknowledge the contribution and sacrifices of the EC members and their families for their tireless effort & teamwork, superb dedication and sacrifice. Without their active involvement, none of the programs would have seen the daylight. I won’t do justice if I do not thank my EC members. I felt blessed to be part of this great team. Credit for everything we had done during our term goes to each and every member of this fabulous team member and their family.

We tried to give our best to work for our community. However, I am sure there were shortcomings. As President of this EC, I take full responsibility for any or all shortcomings. I will request the community members to extend your full support to the next EC just the way you all supported us. All the members of this EC pledge to provide every support to the next EC should they ask for.

I must mention again that it is our fellow community members who deserve the credits for all the achievements during the year. With everybody’s support, our beloved Association will continue to flourish as the common forum to foster our rich cultural heritage by promoting cultural diversity and harmony in the wider Canberra community.

At the end, I would also like to take the opportunity to express my deep gratitude to all those who served BAAC and its two entity Bangla School and Bangla Radio from its inception. What BAAC is today is due to their selfless contributions over the years. They have showed us the way on how to serve the community through the platform of BAAC and bring the community together in sunny days as well as in rainy days.

Thank you all.

With best regards

Syed A As-Sayeed

Outgoing President of BAAC EC 2013-14
