Fred Hyde, AM received Bangabandhu Award
Mr Fred Hyde, an Australian War Veteran, is the recipient of Bangabandhu Award 2010 for his dedication to help 50,000 underprivileged children with education in 41 local primary schools in Bangladesh. Every year Bangabandhu Parishad, with this award, honours the devoted personalities who are committed to Bangladesh and Bangladeshi Community in Australia.
After military service and a successful career in retailing, Fred has established the Co-Operation in Development (CO-ID) charity for children education, which is welcomed by the Bangladeshi Government as a positive “foreign” initiative. In recognition of his tireless work over the years in Bangladesh, Fred was awarded a great honour – “Member of The Order of Australia”. At his age of 90, Fred still spends 6 months of the year on the ground in Bangladesh running CO-ID.
On 22 August 2010, Fred’s deputy, Mr Tony Kent, received the award in an award ceremony held at the Bangladesh’s national mourning day program organized by Bangabandhu Parishad Inc in Sydney. The program was attended by His Excellency Lt Gen Masud Uddin Chowdhury, the High Commission for Bangladesh and Advocate Tarana Halim, MP of Bangladesh Parliament.
