Dr. Bina D’Consra discusses Education and Racism in Australia By Roquia Haider

In an exclusive interview with VOA, Dr. Bina D’Costa discussed racism and the field of education in Australia. She spoke about the recent killing of Nitin Garg, a 21 year old Indian student in Victoria who was stabbed to death in January 2010 because of his race.
Dr. Bina D’Costa gave her opinion about the reaction in India regarding this chain of racism in Australia towards Indians and South Asians in general. She also answered questions about the steps that the Australian government has taken to appease the situation. She believes that education is of utmost importance in Australia and the government has taken strong action. The Australian Deputy Minister has assured India that the country will do everything in its power to make sure that acts of racism like this will not take place again.
Dr. Bina D’Costa is a research fellow for Center for International Governance and Justice at the Australian National University.
