In memory of Mr. W.A.S. Ouderland, Bir Pratik: The Valiant Freedom Fighter
As time goes by human memories about the past tend to fade away. Thirty years after the liberation of Bangladesh many prominent freedom fighting heroes are disappearing from our mind. On 19th May 2001, when Dr Parvez from Sydney informed me that Mr
Ouderland Bir Pratik (BP) has passed away in Perth on 18 May 2001, it was a shame on me that I failed to recollect such an eminent freedom fighter immediately. It took a few moments for me to remember his heroic contribution to the war of liberation in Bangladesh in
1971. Nevertheless, the news of his passing away made me extremely sad. I also felt awfully unfortunate for not knowing that the legendary hero in his last days lived quietly in Perth, the same city where I live. Many of us, in particular our younger generations living
in Australia, do not know much about Mr Ouderland BP and his contribution to the liberation war of Bangladesh. This article is an attempt to present a glimpse of his life sketch with a hope that the future generations will be inspired to stand firm for justice, freedom and peace.
