Mohoram’s Wheels
“Mohoram’s Wheels” from Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka to Washington, DC, is about to start at the end of June 2011. With his own wheelchair and all by himself, Md. Mohoram Ali will cross 3 continents and 16 countries for a total distance of 18,700 kilometers. The first part will be by bus and train through India, Nepal, Tibet, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom to Dublin, Ireland. The second part of his trip will cross the North Atlantic Ocean by ship to reach legendary New York. From there Mohoram continues to the U.S. capital Washington.
The mission of this trip is to show people with disabilities what can be achieved through the possession of a strong will and determination and also to announce my proposal to build a World disABILITY Fund.
Mohoram already finished a 3,400 kilometers trip in his wheelchair from Bangladesh to India in 2007. He went to Russia in 2010 to participate at the international ERGO White Night Marathon in St. Petersburg. He also visited South Korea to participate at the Abilympics workshop.
Along the way Mohoram met a lot of people encouraging him, making friends and giving an example of self-discipline and trust into one’s own ABILITY.
His statement: “I like to travel with my disability at home and abroad. I traveled to India in 2007, to Russia in 2010, to South Korea in 2010 alone with my own wheelchair to show persons with and without disabilities what we can do. I take this journey over Land and Water as a challenge to prove “ABILITY not disABILITY……- I like to travel with my disability.”
About Mohoram!
He is a 24 years old wheelchair user from Bangladesh. His left side became paralyzed when he was 18 months old. Currently he uses a manual wheelchair to move around. Mohoram is working at the “Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP)” in Bangladesh. In 2010 he became one of the Bezgraniz ambassadors representing the internet portal bezgraniz.com in his region.
