50 Fallen Leaves of Silver Fern

By Abu Sufian

Your sons and daughters carried heavy tears
On their cheeks before they were gun down
In a place of worship, in the midst of a peaceful town.
50 of your hearts being downtrodden
50 of your leaves were fallen.

Your sky has always been a space for fresh air,
Your land has been a symbol of peace and tranquility,
And your people have been amicably generous;
But the terrorist tried to scare your people,
Naively wanted to contaminate the air where peace resides,
Foolishly attempted to implant hatred in the mass.

Surely his ambition has been foiled,
Surely love has won over hatred,
Surely his intention is hated by millions.

In one of your darkest days
Christchurch and You shed tears
The world shed tears for those who left us,
For those being taken from their loved ones.

Note: The poem is dedicated to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack in New Zealand, carried out in two places of worship during Friday Prayer on 15 March 2019.
