Canberra Eid al-Fitr Festival – Sunday 19 September 2010

ACT Policing Crime Prevention Multicultural Liaison Team wishes to invite all on the weekend of the 19 September 2010 to the 2010 Canberra Eid al-Fitr Festival. The first public event of its kind in Canberra, the Eid Festival marks the end of the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan. Eid Festivals will take place all over Australia and around the world in the coming weeks.
AFP ACT Policing Multicultural Liaison Team, AFP Culture and Language Centre and the AFP Diversity Team have been working with Canberra Muslim communities to plan the Festival, which will take place on Sunday 19 September 2010 from 10am to 5pm at John Dunmore Lang Park, Canberra (between Questacon and the High Court of Australia.) This year’s Festival is fully supported by the AFP.
The Festival welcomes people of all faiths and traditions in a spirit of harmony and community. As a family event, the Festival will have stage performances, folklore and cultural shows, historical displays, handicrafts, multicultural food and drinks, henna and face painting, books, reptile shows, an animal farm, pony rides, dodgem cars, jumbo jumping castle and children’s rides. The AFP’s own Constable Kenny Koala will also be there.
Entry to the Festival is free as are stage performance, cultural shows and historical displays. Rides per person will be capped and will attract a nominal fee of a gold coin per ride that will be donated to the Australian National Islamic Library which is under construction at the Canberra Islamic Centre, Monash, ACT.
