Bangladesh School Fundraiser
I would like to thank all Palmerston Senior College Community and Darwin Bangladeshi Community members for their ongoing support for the school we have built in ChorfashionBhola, Bangladesh. School is going to start enrolling students from June-July 2011 under the umbrella of COID(for more information please visit www.fredhyde.org ). The students from Palmerston Senior College are responsible and enthusiastic to generate funds through home group activities. It requires much coordination and genuine group interest to ensure we meet the target each year to keep our school in Bangladesh operating.
A few of our Palmerston Senior College students and teachers took this project as a serious challenge and are doing their best to assist in educating disadvantaged students in Bangladesh. To bring this dream into reality, students and teachers collaboratively ran a “Massive Garage Sale” program on 18th of June 2011 in the Palmerston Senior College’s car park. Chief minister Paul Handerson, principal Jenny Nash and elder of Darwin Bangladeshi community Nurul Huq(Order of Australia) were among the dignitaries.
This year our contribution will be $2,000 to pay two teachers’ salary in the newly constructed school. We made $1220 profit from the event. Most of our Darwin Bangladeshi community members donated lots of their household items to assist our fundraising event. Special thanks to Sabbir bhai, Farjana vabi, Kashfi Farhana, Zahir bhai, Jawed bhai, Sabbir Rana, Kafil bhai and Amin bhai from Palmerston for their great contribution on the day since early morning.
Marara Cristian School must be thanked for providing entertainment. Around 400 people from different ethnic backgrounds participated and enjoyed in the fun event. Most people loved the specially prepared Bangladeshi food and socializing with their friends around. We look forward to making this even bigger next year.
