Message of High Commissioner on the Occasion of Sharodio Durga Pula

The main essence of all religion is welfare of people. Hindus believe that goddess Durga protects her devotees from the evils of the world and at the same time removes their miseries. Since time immemorial goddess Durga has been worshipped by Hindus as she is believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world.

On the auspicious occasion of ‘Sharodiyo Durga Puja’, my wife and I convey our heartfelt felicitation and warm greetings to our nationals living in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. ‘Sharodiyo Durga Puja’ is the most awaited religious festivals of the Hindu community. It is celebrated every year around the world with enthusiasm, gaiety and religious fervor with a call to establish peace defeating all evil forces. This is a festival which transcends language, culture and even religious beliefs. On this occasion, I would like to call upon all to work from their respective position to preserve harmony among people.

Whilst all around the world and throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, people will be celebrating in their own way during ‘Sharodiyo Durga Puja’, our thoughts will always go out to those who cannot find peace in their homes, or those who are far away from their loved ones. On this occasion, I would also like to call upon all, whatever their culture or religion, to try to do something to help make the world a better and more peaceful place.

I wish you all a very happy and peaceful ‘Sharodiyo Durga Puja’.
