Press Release on the observance of the 89th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day-2009
Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra organised a programme to celebrate the 89th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children Day 2009 at the conference room of the Mission. The programme began with screening of a documentary on the life of Bangabandhu titled “Chiranjib Bangabandhu’’.
Later children took part in the presentation of songs, poetry and short talks on the life of the great leader in the segment of the children activities. The performances of the children were lauded by the audience.
A discussion meeting was held on the occasion where many expatriate Bangladeshis living in Canberra as well as officials of the Mission participated. In the discussion meeting, the speakers highlighted the contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu in the war of the liberation through which Bangladesh came into being in 1971 as a sovereign nation. In the meeting speakers also praised the statesmanship of Bangabandhu for his dedication for the development and well being of the country and its people. It was a very tragic event for Bangladesh on 15 August 1975 when the perpetrators brutally assassinated the great leader along with his members of family. This was a great loss for the country. The speakers demanded the trial of the killers of Bangabandhu and the trial of the war criminals. Without the trial of these reactionary forces it would not be possible to
create an atmosphere where Bangladesh can lead to the path of peace and stability, the speakers reiterated in their remarks during the discussion meeting.
