BEN Australia Donated 90,000 taka for Environment Awareness and movement
Bangladesh needs strong environment movement to protect itself from Environmental disaster for developing safer and better Bangladesh. It is one of the front line countries who will be severely affected by climate change. Scientists predict that one third of the country will go under water and millions of people will be displaced, homeless, jobless as a consequence. We have to face severe food and health crisis in our motherland. Bangladesh Environmental Net Work (BEN) along with BAPA and people of Bangladesh has been mobilizing mass people and taking action to face the challenges imposed by the climate change and find out mitigation options along with government and people. It is also important to get people involved with the process and make sure that the government take its leadership role to protect environment and stop climate change.
To support BAPA and ongoing movement in our country Bangladesh Environment Net work (BEN) Australia Chapter contributed 90,000 taka to BEN-BAPA fund in the current year. A Cheque was handed over to the Emirates Professor Dr Anisuszzaman by Coordinator of BEN, Australia chapter last week in Canberra while he was visiting Australia. Professor Anis is also life member of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA).
During the handover of Cheque Professor Dr Atiqul Islam, Dr Sadequr Rahman , Dr. Kamaluddin, Dr Nilufar Jahan, Dr Asifur Rahim, Dr Moyejur Rahaman, Dr Ezaz Mamun, Kamrul Ahsan Khan and others were present. BEN Australia contributes every year as a part of annual Global fund raising by Global BEN.
BEN Australia is also organizing a rally in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne along with other major countries on 18 of September to submit memorandum to UN office as Global Initiative by BEN, BEN will also taking part in Environment Expo in Canberra to be held on 10,11,12 September. Bangladesh community is requested to visit BEN stall in Convention centre during the Expo.

বর্তমানে জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনসহ নানামুখী পরিবেশ বিষয়ক সমস্যার মুখোমুখি বাংলাদেশ। ভবিষ্যত প্রজন্মের জন্য বাসযোগ্য বাংলাদেশ রেখে যাবার লক্ষ্যে পরিবেশ রক্ষায় এখনি গণ সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধিসহ প্রয়োজনীয় উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করতে হবে। আর পরিবেশ রক্ষার এই আন্দোলনে জনগনের সাথে সাথে সরকারকেই মূল ভূমিকা পালন করতে হবে। পাশাপাশি বেসরকারী পর্যায়ের উদ্যোগও জরুরী। বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশ পরিবেশ আন্দোলন (বাপা) এর চলমান পরিবেশ বিষয়ক আন্দোলনকে সহায়তা করার অংশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশ এনভাইরোনমেন্টাল নেটওয়ার্ক (বেন), অস্ট্রেলিয়া চ্যাপ্টারের পক্ষ থেকে বার্ষিক অনুদানের অংশ হিসেবে ৯০,০০০.০০ টাকা প্রদান করা হয়েছে। সম্প্রতি এক অনাড়ম্বর অনুষ্ঠানে অস্ট্রেলিয়া সফররত বাংলাদেশের বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদ, বাপার আজীবন সদস্য ও ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রফেসর এমেরিটাস আনিসুজ্জামান এর হাতে বেন এর পক্ষ থেকে বেন – অস্ট্রেলিয়ার আহবায়ক জনাব কামরুল আহসান খান অনুদানের এই চেক হস্তান্তর করেন। এই অনুষ্ঠানে বেন, অস্ট্রেলিয়ার পক্ষ থেকে আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন অধ্যাপক ডঃ আতিকুল ইসলাম, ডঃ সাদেকুর রহমান, ডঃ কামালউদ্দিন, ডঃ নীলুফার জাহান, ডাঃ আসিফুর রহিম, ডাঃ ময়েজুর রহমান, ডঃ এজাজ মামুন প্রমুখ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
বাংলাদেশের পরিবেশ রক্ষায় বিশ্ব জনমত গড়ে তোলবার অংশ হিসেবে বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের বেন এর সাথে বেন – অস্ট্রেলিয়া আগামী ১৮ সেপ্টেম্বর, ২০০৯ সিডনি, ক্যানবেরা ও মেলবোর্নে র্যালির আয়োজন করবে, র্যালী শেষে জাতিসংঘের স্থানীয় পর্যায়ের অফিস সমূহে স্মারকলিপি পেশ করা হবে। এছাড়া, আগামী ১০,১১ ও ১২ সেপ্টেম্বর ক্যানবেরার ন্যাশনাল কনভেনশন সেন্টারে অনুষ্ঠিতব্য পরিবেশ মেলায় অংশ গ্রহন করবে। মেলায় বেন-অস্ট্রেলিয়ার একটা স্টল থাকবে। ক্যানবেরাস্থ বাংলাদেশী কম্যুনিটিকে উক্ত পরিবেশ মেলায় অংশগ্রহন করতে অনুরোধ করা যাচ্ছে।
