The title of “chevalier (knight) dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters)” has been conferred on internationally recognised Bangladeshi mime artiste Partha Pratim Majumder.

During a phone conversation with The Daily Star, the elated mime maestro informed that the French Ministry of Culture confers the award as recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields. Majumder has already received the certificate. He’ll be awarded the medal soon.

The Paris-based Bangladeshi artiste was a student of legendary French mime artiste Marcel Marceau. Blending western corporeal mime, pantomime, Chinese opera, Japanese traditional Kabuki and Noh, and Indian Kathakali, Majumder developed his unique style of mime.
