Dear respected community members,
Ekush is around the corner! Ekushey February is an event that roots deep into our identity as Bangalis. Back home we observe the day 21st of February as ‘Bhasha Dibosh’ which has been acclaimed by United Nations as ‘International Language Day’. The highlights of the day include commemorating the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to uphold the language Bangla as the official language of the then East Pakistan which has now emerged in the global map as a sovereign state Bangladesh! The common rituals are probhat ferri, placing floral garland at Shaheed Minar and cultural activities highlighting the day’s significance.
Dear community, Australia Bangladesh Association in conjunction with other Bangladeshi socio-cultural groups and individuals, is organizing a day-long event Omor Ekushe 2011 on Saturday 26th of February 2011 at Chandler Community Centre. Details are:
