Darwin Bangladesh Friendship School fun Afternoon

Palmerston Senior College had a successful fund raising on last Saturday. They achieved more than their target of $2000 on that day. It was wonderful to see that the Bangladeshi Community helped them with the fund raising for a school at Chaarfassion, Bhola. From my side I must thank the participant of the cultural program Shila, Shuvo, Shabbir Bhai, Bushra and Hema. We had only four days to get ourselves organised with a one hour program and I must appreciate the effort and courage shown by Shila by taking up the challenge. It was a wonderful program and every one enjoyed the songs. It was unfortunate that Durga-Puja was also on that day and Manoshi Baudi though wanted to but could not participate. Here are few clips of the program for your enjoyment.

A CO-ID School in Bangladesh

Fred Hyde, now 94 years old started Co-ID 36 years ago to bring education to the children in the poorest areas of the delta of the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh. His program involves Australian schools and community groups adopting a school to support with fundraising. There are now 14,000 children attending 43 Co-ID schools. Palmerston Senior College and the Darwin Bangladeshi Community combined fundraising efforts to pay for construction of a pre-school at Char Fassion on Bhola Island. We are now committed to raising funds to pay for stationery and text books for the children and for teachers’ salaries. Our target is to raise $4000 each year to support the education of the 80 really dedicated little students who attend our preschool each day.Your participation in our fundraising family afternoon will really help these children, a direct way to contribute to alleviating their poverty.
