Bangladesh University of Engineering & technology (BUET) and its predecessor institutions are the most recognized and prestigious educational institutions in Bangladesh. Many BUET graduates have marked their footsteps in the area of research, science & technology in all parts of the world. A large number of BUET graduates are working as professional engineers, University teachers, researchers, IT specialists, programmers as well as in other professional areas in all major cities around Australia. Some of the alumni have been permanently settled here in Australia for a very long time, while others may be just new comers. However, until now, there was no common avenue or mechanism for the Australia-based BUET alumni to know each other or to stay connected. A common forum reflecting the BUET tie and bond among themselves is needed and justified. The BUET Alumni Association, Australian Chapter has been formed with this in mind. The Association’s major objectives are:
• To establish a common platform for social, cultural and professional activities among the BUET alumni living in Australia.
• To develop stronger bond and cohesion among the fellow alumni in order to help & support each other personally and professionally.
• To provide support to the BUET alumni and their families in difficult time.
• To organize humanitarian activities at the time of national calamities in Australia, Bangladesh and other parts of the world.
• To organize and establish scholarship funds to help needy and deserving architecture and engineering students in Bangladesh.
About 35 enthusiastic BUET Graduate Engineers and Architects have met in Sydney recently and adopted a draft constitution of the BUET Alumni Association, Australia Chapter & formed the following five member interim committee:
President- Dr Mirza Manirul Hassan
General Secretary- Mahmuda Runu
Treasurer- Yunus Rana
Cultural Secretary-Tanzeen Sultana
Secretary for public communication-Zulhas Bhuiyan
The interim committee will organize a get-together of BUET Alumni & their family and a cultural function soon to elect an Executive Committee.
BUETAA’s Current President Dr. Engr Mirza Manirul Hassan requests all alumni of BUET and predeces¬sor institutions to become Members of BUETAA. Non-alumni who are current or former Faculty members, members of the Syndicate or Academic Council of BUET or its predecessor institu¬tions are eligible to become Associate Members of BUETAA.
