Demanding the Bangladesh Government to take immediate actions to stop brutal attacks on innocent Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh, the Bangladeshi Hindu Community in Canberra submitted a petition to the Bangladesh High Commission on 7th March 2013.

The community members are deeply concerned about the recent attacks which terrified the Hindus and other minorities, who had lost their properties and businesses. The community strongly condemned the attacks and demanded immediate actions to:

(i) stop attacks and killings of minority people, stealing their properties and destroying their places of worship,
(ii) provide shelter, food, medical treatments and rehabilitation to the affected individuals and families,
(iii) ensure houses, businesses and places of worship of the minority people are rebuilt as soon as possible and are properly compensated for their losses,
(iv) investigate causes of the attacks, lootings, and killings to bring the criminals to justice, and
(v) re-establish the rights and confidence of the minority people to make them feel as a citizen of Bangladesh

The community also submitted a carbon copy of the same petition to the Prime Minister of Australia, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Australian Human Right Commission and UNHCR.
