Buddha Purnima Festival is the most sacred and important festival in Buddhist calendars which is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world. Lord Buddha’s overflowing love for the downtrodden and the destitute people acted as one of the factors for social harmony and justice to the weaker sections of the society. The spiritual and moral forces generated by the teachings of Lord Buddha which have strengthened and enriched our society are followed through this festival called ‘Buddha Purnima’. The Day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha which make it more significant than any other day of the year.

On the auspicious occasion of ‘Buddha Purnima’, my wife and I convey our heartfelt felicitation and warm greetings to our nationals living in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. This is a festival celebrated by Buddhist worldwide which transcends language, culture and even religious beliefs.

Whilst all around the world and throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, people will be celebrating in their own way during ‘Buddha Purnima’, our thoughts will always go out to those who cannot find peace in their homes, or those who are far away from their loved ones. On this occasion, I would also like to call upon all, irrespective of culture or religion, to try to do something to help make the world a better and more peaceful place.

I wish you all a very happy and peaceful ‘Buddha Purnima’.

Lieutenant General
Masud Uddin Chowdhury
