High Commissioner for Bangladesh presented his letter of credence
The newly appointed High Commissioner for Bangladesh to Australia, Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury, ndc, psc, has presented his letter of credence to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms. Quentin Bryce AC, in an official ceremony at the Government House in Canberra this morning. Upon his arrival at the Government House, the new High Commissioner was received by Ms. Anne Moores, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The Governor-General welcomed Mr. Chowdhury and wished him success in his new assignment. The new High Commissioner conveyed warm greetings from the Hon’ble President of Bangladesh to the Governor General, which was reciprocated by the latter. The Governor-General then invited the new High Commissioner to her study for further discussion. The Governor-General praised the socio-economic achievements of Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of a stronger bilateral relations between the two countries. She showed her keen and appreciative interest about the forthcoming elections in Bangladesh, the issues of empowerment of women and the measures taken by Bangladesh to better ensure the rights of women. The High Commissioner expressed his satisfaction at the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two friendly Commonwealth countries and said that during his tenure, he would try to widen the scope of the relations particularly in the areas of trade and investment, transfer of technology, human resources development including training for development of skilled personnel, and people to people contact. He highlighted the complete and comprehensive preparation of the Government and the Election Commission including completion of the Herculean task of preparing the voter roll of more than 80 million people with photographs and fingerprints to hold the forthcoming elections in Bangladesh in a free, fair and credible manner.
His Excellency Mr. Michael Bryce, AM, AE, spouse of the Governor-General, Mr. Miles Kupa, Deputy Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Mr. Stephen Brady, Official Secretary to the Governor-General, were present at the ceremony. Mrs. Jasmin Masud, wife of the High Commissioner, and officials of Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra, were also present at the ceremony.
Later, the new High Commissioner and his wife attended a luncheon hosted by the Governor-General and his spouse at the Government House.
